Novak Djokovic continued his winning streak in singles matches, beating Constant lestienne, France, 6-3, and 6-2 on Tuesday at the Adelaide International.

The top-seeded Djokovic won his 30th consecutive singles match on Australian soil, a streak that dates back to 2018. After losing in doubles on the previous day, Djokovic won his first singles match. He will now face Daniil Medvedev of seventh place in Adelaide. Daniil was defeated earlier by Lorenzo Sonego, Italy, 7-6 (6) and 2-1 before Sonego had to retire due to a right-arm injury.

Djokovic’s last loss in Australia came in the fourth round at the 2018 Australian Open. He will now face Jordan Thompson from Australia or Quentin Halys from France to reach the quarterfinals. The crowd at Adelaide welcomed him again, as he was a winner of this tournament in his 20th year.

Djokovic will be playing in Australia for his first time since 2021. He missed the Australian Open last year and was deported for not complying with the country’s vaccination requirements for inbound travelers. His ranking has fallen to No. After being forced to miss several tournaments last year, his ranking has dropped to No. 5.

You are what you put your focus on. Focusing on the negatives will attract me, which is why I don’t want that. When Djokovic was asked about his return from Australia, he said that he doesn’t have a grudge.

“I’m here to play tennis, to love sports and to spread positive energy. It was a pleasant surprise to see my first match in a packed house. There was lots of support and love.

Djokovic arrived in Australia much more smoothly this year than last year.

He said, “Well, I was just joking with my team, hoping that I could enter Australia this time.”

It was, in my opinion, quite normal. It was like any other year that I have entered Australia, except for the last, which was difficult through passport control. We landed well. Medvedev had already saved nine set points and won the first set against Sonego, who was 45th.

Medvedev stated, “I didn’t know it was nine (set point),”

“That’s crazy. This is probably the first time I have saved nine set points in my entire life.

He said, “What a way to begin the year!”

Sonego was playing Medvedev in his first match and seemed to be the one who won the first set. Medvedev served at 5-4, and Sonego had six set points. However, Medvedev was able rely on his big serve to save all six.

Two more games later, Sonego held three set points at 0-40 against Medvedev’s, but Medvedev rallied and won the set after 80 minutes.

He said, “To be truthful, 0-40 was a difficult moment.” “I didn’t count, but I knew that I saved a lot.
